Overview
CertGuard is a mobile app that helps professionals store and track their certifications and licenses. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user.
Effective date: June 16, 2025 | Last updated: June 16, 2025
Data Storage
All data you enter into CertGuard — including certification titles, dates, license numbers, notes, and any attached photos or documents — is stored locally on your device only. CertGuard does not operate servers, does not sync your data to the cloud, and does not transmit any personal information over the internet.
Device Permissions
CertGuard requests the following device permissions:
- Camera — lets you photograph a certification card so the app can scan its text automatically. Photos are processed entirely on-device and are never uploaded.
- Photo Library — lets you select an existing image from your library for scanning or to attach to a certification record. Images are not copied off your device.
- Notifications — used to send local expiration-reminder alerts before a certification expires. All notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device; no notification servers are involved.
- Calendar (optional) — lets CertGuard add renewal reminder events to your device calendar if you enable this feature in Settings. No calendar data is read by the app.
Text Recognition (OCR)
CertGuard uses Google ML Kit Text Recognition to automatically extract information from photos of your certifications. ML Kit runs entirely on your device; no image data is sent to Google or any other server during this process.
Third-Party Services
CertGuard integrates the following third-party SDKs:
- Google ML Kit — on-device text recognition. No data leaves your device. (ML Kit Terms)
- Google Play Services (Android only) — used for app-update checks via the standard Play Store mechanism. Google's own privacy policy governs this interaction. (Google Privacy Policy)
CertGuard does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, crash-reporting services, or any other tool that collects or transmits your data.
Children's Privacy
CertGuard is intended for use by adults managing professional credentials. The app does not knowingly collect any data from children under the age of 13.
Data Security
Because all data remains on your device, its security is governed by your device's own security features (screen lock, encryption, etc.). Deleting the app removes all locally stored certification data permanently.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the new version will be posted at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
